How to clean your car interior like a pro

Hey everyone! We've shown you plenty of times how to deep clean your interior at home — with a vacuum and whatever you have on hand. Today we'll cover how to take the result to a pro level and get textiles, plastic and carpet as clean as possible without dropping the car off at a detailing shop.

What UraGun is

The star of the show is our new UraGun. It's a handheld air-powered interior cleaning gun for fabric, plastic and carpeted surfaces, plus tight spots. It works with a powerful swirling air stream that knocks dirt out of deep inside the fibers — where a regular vacuum can't reach.

Step 1. Dry cleaning — knock out the sand

Let's use a dirty textile floor mat as an example. Vacuum it first to pick up the larger debris. But even after several passes sand keeps falling out — the vacuum doesn't pull what's stuck at the base of the pile.

Now grab the UraGun and go over it. Grains of sand fly right out of the textile. Do the same inside the interior — especially on the carpet in the driver's footwell, focusing on high-contact spots. To keep the sand from scattering, keep a running vacuum nearby and pick up the loosened dirt right away.

Work pass after pass in one direction. Once the mat stops shedding sand, move on to the wet stage.

Step 2. Wet deep cleaning

Fill the HDPE container included with the UraGun with water and lightly dampen the textile. This shortens the time the cleaner needs to react with the dirt — and you won't have to spend ages rinsing foam out of the pile afterward.

Apply the ready-to-use carpet & upholstery cleaner Cleanton with a juicy peach scent. After a couple of minutes, go over it with a textile brush in one direction, then hit the surface again with the UraGun. Add water if needed.

Step 3. Finish — extract the product and dry

At the final stage, pull the leftover product out with an extractor. Comb the pile in one direction; you can wrap the brush in a Pearl Wipe microfiber towel to dry the surface a bit more. Voilà — a perfectly clean mat.

Details that matter

• Hold the nozzle 2–3 cm (1.2") from the surface — the air stream works better and is gentler on the pile.
• Work in one direction, don't scrub the stain in circles.
• Got access to a compressor? Hook up the UraGun for interior work — the deep cleaning goes faster and comes out better.
• When you're done, remove the plastic nozzle, rinse it under running water and dry it with a microfiber towel or compressed air.
