Scuffed door sills? How to bring back a deep black color in 10 minutes

There's one interior part that ages faster than the rest — the plastic door sills.

The driver and passengers step on them every day. Dust, sand and fine abrasive work their way into the plastic texture, and the light scuff marks get more and more obvious. A lot of people try wet wipes or polishes, but the effect disappears as soon as the surface dries.

Here's how to restore your sills the right way.

Why don't wet wipes work?

Those whitish streaks aren't dust sitting on the surface.

Usually it's two problems at once:

• embedded contaminants down in the texture;
• micro-scuffing of the plastic itself

A wipe only lifts the top layer of dirt. As soon as the moisture evaporates, the plastic goes gray again

Step 1. Clean the plastic texture

Start by applying Cleanton directly to the sill.

This interior cleaner quickly softens embedded contaminants and is safe on most interior plastic parts.

Step 2. A brush does more than a sponge

The key tool here is the small Tweaks detailing brush with soft cosmetic bristles.

It's what pulls dirt out of the deep texture where a microfiber towel can't reach.

Work the surface in circles, then pick up the loosened dirt with a clean microfiber towel.

After that the plastic should be completely clean and dry.

Step 3. Bring back the color without a greasy shine

Now it's time to restore.

Apply Total Eclipse in a thin, even layer over the whole sill.

The dressing works into the porous structure of the plastic, visually darkening fine scuffs and bringing back a rich black tone.

Wait 2–3 minutes.

Before it dries completely, apply a second thin layer — the finish comes out more even that way.
